Osaka is a large port city and commercial center on the Japanese island of Honshu. It’s known for its modern architecture, nightlife and hearty street food.

City highlights
It is the third largest city in Japan, with around 20 million people in greater Osaka.
It is home to Universal Studios Japan, the first to be built outside of USA. Also, its newest and hugely popular attraction Super Nintendo World opened in 2021.
Osaka Castle, with its beautiful gardens, was originally built in 1587, and was reconstructed in the 1930s. It stands five stories high on the outside and eight stories on the inside. The castle, moat and fortress are undoubtedly one of Japan’s most famous landmarks.
Delicious street food
The city is well known for its cuisine, having created many street foods known around the world today such as okonomiyaki (savoury pancake with pork belly and veggies), Takoyaki (fried octopus balls) and kushikatsu (deep fried skewers of meat and veggies).
These and many more delicacies can be found at the various food markets across the city.

Osaka is a gateway to other famous Japanese cities like Kyoto and Nara.
In addition to great soccer teams, it is home to the Hanshin Tigers Baseball team.
There are many great parks and gardens, and it’s a bonus if you visit during the spectacular cherry blossom season.
There are vibrant festivals throughout the year – such as the lively Aizen and Sumiyoshi festivals and the colourful Kishiwada Danjiri festival.
Great for shopping, with various destinations for luxury shopping, boutiques and shopping districts across the city.
It has an incredible history of craftsmanship and is a great place to buy local goods like pottery, textiles and kitchen knives.
